Gesture and the Human Form Workshop with Roberto Visani

In this workshop, participants will contemplate and respond to the communicative potential of the human form.  Visual art has many examples depicting the human body.  Artists depict and pose the body to communicate joy, fear, excitement, triumph and many other states of being.  Examples include Rodin's The Thinker, Edvard Munch's The Scream, and more recently Alice Neel's portraits.

The workshop will begin with a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation discussing various ways artists use the human body to communicate emotions and ideas through non-verbal means.  After which, participants will be asked to pose their bodies, change their expression, and even consider their surroundings (lighting, background, dress) to communicate an idea/emotion.  These poses will be photographed and subsequently shared with the group for discussion.

This workshop will take place at Rohi's Readery and is best for ages 6 and up.
